A village, river, and monastery, all of the same name. The village was the birthplace of Bharana, one of Dutthagámaní's generals (Mhv.xxiii.64). On the river was a ford called Javamála, crossed by Dutthagámaní while fleeing from his brother Tissa (Mhv.xxiv.22). According to this context, the river must have been in Rohana, and Geiger (Mhv.Trs.165, n.5) thinks that it is probably identical with the modern Kumbukkan-Oya. The Mahávamsa Tika (p.593) says that Malayamahádeva came to Kappakandara Piyangudípa to receive alms from Dutthagámaní.

According to the Rasaváhiní (Ras.ii.160) the village was near Cittalapabbata Vihára.
