Brother of Vedisadeví.
He belonged to the Sákyan clan, and with Sumitta was leader of the retinue sent by Asoka to escort the branch of the Bodhi tree to Anurádhapura.
At the conclusion of the planting of the tree, Bodhigutta was taken by the king to Morapásáda and there invested with the rank of Lankájayamahálekhaka (q.v.) amid great pomp and ceremony. He was given a house near the Bodhi tree. Later he married Sunandá, sister of Bodhiguttá, and had two children - Mahinda and Vidhurinda. Mbv.154 f., 163 f., 169.
